Friday Deals: 'Rosaline' Adaptation, Sci-Fi 'Year 12' Gets Director« FirstShowing.net

There's a couple of acquisition and directing deals announced that I thought were worth mentioning. First, fromDeadline: Fox 2000 has acquired rights to Rebecca Serle's forthcoming novelRosaline, a twist on the classicRomeo& Julietstory. Director Shawn Levy will produce through his company 21 Laps. Adapting the script will be500 Days of SummerwritersScott Neustadter&Michael H. Weber(above), who lined upquite a fewof these quirky romance projects following500DOS.Rosalineis a contemporary version set in a high school, with the love story being told from the vantage point of Rosaline, jilted ex-girlfriend of Romeo.

Next, fromThe Wrap: Commercials directorFredrik Bond, who has yet to make his feature debut despite being attached toHack/SlashandThe Hostremake, is now attached to direct asci-fi action moviecalledYear 12. The script, written by newcomerEdward Ricourt, takes place 12 years after aliens have invaded Earth. So aDistrict 9-like setup. Set in Manhattan, the story follows an underwater uranium miner who is recruited by the human resistance to smuggle uranium in his blood so they can use it to blow up the alien mothership. Wow, sounds like an awesome concept. Let's hope this one actually gets the greenlight soon!
