Jeremy Renner

Because of the lukewarm box office reception of this year's action comedyKnight and DaystarringTom Cruise, Paramount Pictures thought it best to bring in another younger agent to work with Cruise's character Ethan Hunt forMission Impossible: Ghost Protocoland potentially take over the franchise. Wealready knowthat man isJeremy Renner, but now, straight from the actor's mouth, we have some confirmation that the plan is for Renner to relieve Tom Cruise of his IMF duties. The actor recently spoke withMTVwhere he confirmed the plans for the franchise to fall into his lap, but there are no solid plans for another sequel just yet.

Renner revealed,"It's a franchise to potentially take over. I can't predict the future and what they want, but that's certainly the idea."However, whether or not a straight-up hand-off of the series will show up in the fourth installment of the franchise remains to be seen. Renner says,"I can't really go into the details of the script, because that's still evolving. It's Tom {Cruise's} baby. He's the engine behind the thing. What happens after that, we'll see."While Renner doesn't exactly have the same star power that Cruise had when he started the franchise back in 1996, his work onThe Hurt Lockercertainly didn't go unnoticed and onceThe Avengersand thisMission: Impossiblesequel hit, I'm pretty sure he'll be a household name. What do you think?
